Create a Vision Board as a Collage

Intro (15 mins)

  • Briefly explain the class theme: "Dreams, and Goals for 2024."

  • Discuss the importance of setting goals and having dreams and then chasing them, explain motivation and being proactive, as well as thinking positively and being able to achieve set goals

  • Share a few examples of famous people who achieved their goals through hard work and determination. (international as well as Sri Lankan>>volunteers to pick SL public figures, kids can relate to /cricketers, actors, activists, etc.)

  • Explain the purpose of a vision board collage to represent their dreams and goals

You will need:

  1. Poster boards or large sheets of paper

  2. Magazines, newspapers, and other printed materials (brochures, catalogs)

  3. Scissors

  4. Glue sticks or glue

  5. Markers, colored pencils, or crayons

  6. Stickers, glitter, and any decorative items, anything recycled/reusable

  7. Music player and speakers (listen to soft music kids like in the background)

Visualization and Observation (10 minutes):

  • Play soft, calming music to create a relaxed atmosphere. (see videos linked)

  • Ask the children to close their eyes and imagine what they want to achieve in 2024. Encourage them to dream big. Do brainstorming.

  • After a few minutes, have them open their eyes and ask them to write down/sketch on a piece of paper, what came to their mind (show them examples of mind mapping - see Step 1 below)

  • Show examples of vision boards and discuss the concept of a vision board. Explain that it's a visual representation of their dreams and goals. (See Step 2 below)

  • Select the most important dreams and goals from your brainstorming/mind-mapping process to visualize them

Making and Problem-Solving (40 minutes):

  • Provide each child with a poster board or a large sheet of paper.

  • Give them access to magazines, newspapers, and printed materials to cut out images and words that represent their dreams and goals for 2024.

  • Encourage them to arrange and glue their chosen images and words onto the poster board in a creative and meaningful way.

  • Allow the children to use markers, colored pencils, or crayons to draw, write, or add additional elements to their vision boards.

  • Offer assistance to younger children as needed.

  • Promote creativity and problem-solving as they work on their collages(encourage each kid to do their own layout and portrait of their own ideas)

Community Building (15 minutes): after completion of a vision board

  • Gather the children in a circle and have each child share one element from their vision board and explain why it's important to them.

  • Encourage positive feedback and support from their peers.

  • Emphasize the idea of working together to achieve their dreams.

  • Discuss the power of believing in each other's dreams.

Conclusion and Reflection (10 minutes):

  • Have the children return to their vision boards and reflect on what they've created.

  • Ask each child to share one thing they've learned or discovered during the class.

  • Discuss how the act of creating a vision board can help them stay focused on their goals for 2024.

Wrap-Up (5 minutes):

  • Encourage them to take their vision boards home to remind them of their hopes and dreams for 2024.

  • encourages the kids to believe in themselves and support each other in their journeys towards achieving their aspirations.

Step 1: Brainstorming/mind mapping - write down/sketch as many dreams, hopes, and goals on a piece of paper as shown below

Step 2: Select the most important hopes, goals, and dreams for your vision board 2024

Step 3:  Draft a concept of how you want to arrange the board (bigger-priority, smaller-less important, organize order, connections, etc. Think of how you prioritize, highlight, organize and visually communicate the goals
