July 06: Trip + Workshop: Makerspaces

Duration: 4 Hours

Time: 12.00-4.00pm (Please arrive at the center at 12)

Location: Hatch Makerspace, then Local Makerspace in Nawala

Assigned Teachers: Suren, Piyumika, Prashansa, Dhatshayeni, Dhilashini, Viranja

Intro

Today we will learn how technology and creativity can be combined to make art and crafts.

Materials to take with you:

• Paint

• Paintbrushes

• Portraits from the portrait lesson

• A cup for water and a rag

• Sketch paper and pencils (students should have with them)

Location 1: Hatch makerspace: guided by Asad Idris

12.30p : make your own puzzle!

Students will see a demonstration of a laser cutting machine making a blank puzzle. They will then paint their own portrait on top and make their own puzzle.

1.30-2.00 lunch

2.30-3.30: location 2: Local makerspace, guided by Kanil & Suren

Students will tour the makerspace and see what each machine is for and see demonstrations. finally they will draw a custom keychain shape and have it laser cut and see the process. students will decorate as they wish using paint
