Mar 15- Mar 29: MURAL PARTY!
Summary for Facilitators:
Over the next 3 weeks, let’s have some fun! Some of you may know that motivation in the class has been low these days so we want to create a fun and relaxing atmosphere for kids to liven up. So, after speaking to some volunteers, the idea is for a mural weaving party!
Class will be outside, under the trees on colorful mats (please come early if you can to help set up)
Assign TWO children from the class to be the class DJ. Next week it will be two different students
Suren and Piyumika will organize Vade and watermelon juice
We will start each session with a warm up game, see below.
A wooden frame with chicken mesh will be laid flat on the ground with a mural outline (suren will organize)
Four groups of students will learn weaving methods and fill in the mural
Teachers should support the weaving by joining the teams as well
You will need:
For the Game: A4 papers, 4 markers, string, and tape
For the weaving: Cloth scraps, cloth string, scissors, and the paper mockup for reference
Intro game: Today we are going to play a drawing game called Group Doodle.
- Divide the class into four groups. Each group will get a marker with strings and a paper
-In this game, no one draws alone. Instead, the whole group controls one marker together.
-The marker has several strings attached to it.
-Each person holds one string. When you pull your string, the marker moves.
- This means the drawing only works if everyone works together.
You will need to:
communicate with your team
coordinate your movements
move slowly and carefully
-First we will try to draw a smiley face together.
-Then we can try drawing a name, a word, or a simple picture like a house.
-It might feel difficult at first, but that is part of the challenge. every week the drawings will get better!
-The goal is not a perfect drawing — the goal is working together to make something.
Mural weaving
The same four groups will sit at each corner of the mat and weave their idea into life!
Practice weaving styles first, in the beginning it will be slow.
At the end we will hang it at the gate of the children’s center for all to see.
We hope to invite the mayor at the end for a celebration!
