September 10 onw: Let the Mural Painting begin!

Lesson date: September 10, 17 & 24 + October 08,15 & 22

Intro

The next step is ONLY if you have finished the paper mural. Once you’ve finished your paper mural and are happy with the results, it’s time to transfer your art onto the wall. at first, you won’t be using paint, just a ladder, ruler and some pencils. but later it will get colorful and messy!

You will need:

-ruler

-newspapers

-pencils

-wall paint (provided in class)

-an old rag

-paintbrushes and thinner (provided in class)

Guide

Step 1: Set up the mural space by putting newspapers on the floor ensuring a tidy workspace. If the wall isn’t white or light colored, you may have to begin by setting up your ‘canvas’ by painting your mural background white.

Step 2: Use pencils and transfer the artwork onto the wall. use pencils and rulers to mimic the measurements and the ‘grid’ of the paper mural.

Step 3: Time to paint! Let the following videos guide you.

Step 4: Painting will probably take several classes. So please clean up at the end of each class (get the paint out of the paintbrushes or they will get hard) so that you can use the same equipment next time.

Here’s an inspiration video on what makes murals special -Can you guess which part of Colombo this is?:
