Jan 08: Let's plan a mural

Intro to the term

In the next few weeks we are going to do a series of lessons that will allow us to design a next level mural in our classroom or somewhere else.

Ask students:

  • who took part in doing the first mural?

  • What did you like about it and what would you do differently this time?

Here is a (re) introduction of what our class is about WIP

Intro to the lesson

Today we will learn about types of murals and discuss:

Can art change the world? What messages do street art convey?

Use some of the styles below to sketch of street art you would like to see. The goal is to send a beautiful heartwarming message to younger students who enter the classroom. think of it as a message to your younger self. what would you want to tell them?

Guide

Step 1: Take a look at various examples of Street art and learn about them. Discuss: Are there more types of Street Art than what is shown here? Which one is your favorite and why?

Step 2: Take a rough piece of paper and draw a visual message. What colors would you combine? What method would you use?

Step 3: Combine into groups of two or three to give each other feedback. Every student needs to tell something positive to the other. Discuss what message your art portrays
