Aug 30: Special workshop with Prashansa - Clay basics

AN INTRO TO CLAY HANDLING & BASICS OF SCULPTING

Place and time: Nagaswatta, Building Hope Children’s center | 12.30-2pm (please be at the class 15 minutes early)

Intro:

In this workshop, we’ll get an introduction to working with clay and explore different ways to shape and sculpt it.

You can try making a small pot, bowl, or figurine, or create something of your own.

We’ll learn simple techniques like rolling, pinching, pressing, and joining clay to build our ideas.

You will need:

  • Natural clay 500g x 12 (depending on how many students come in)

  • Modelling clay 500g x 2 (depending on how many students come in)

  • Plastic/ Polythene sheet to cover the final projects with (ask students to bring)

  • Clay modeling tools OR alternatively plastic knives, forks & spoons

  • Shells, leaves, flowers, other stamps (for stamping - ask students to bring)

  • Sponges

  • Paintbrushes

  • Acrylic varnish (if we decide to seal them to preserve them to display at an exhibition maybe)

Segment 02: Clay forming methods & Additive techniques

Experimenting with clay

Segment 03: Scoring, Slip making & smoothing out cracks

Segment 04: How to store + dry natural clay trinkets :)
