Guide
1. Warm up: Animal Charades + Affirmations
Children pick an animal card at random; each card has a red or blue dot for team assignment.
Teams stand apart. A child silently gestures like their animal to their team.
The other team guesses the animal within 30 seconds.
After each guess, the teachers reads the affirmation aloud in sinhala and tamil
Rotate until all children have presented.
Tips:
Use this time to highlight positive traits and make sure children understand their affirmation.
2. Reflection & Animal Choice (10–15 mins)
Ask children to reflect:
“Which animal’s traits do you feel you have?”
“Which traits do you want to show in your mask?”
Children can choose to pick an animal for their mask from the cup of cards that represents them better.
Multiple children may pick the same animal — that’s fine.
3. Mask-Making Introduction (5 mins)
Introduce paper plates as masks.
Show examples of how to cut eyes out, draw a rough sketch and decorate them.
Explain: “Your mask will show your animal’s personality traits using shapes, colors, and patterns.”
4. Mask-Making / Creative Time (40–60 mins)
Children draw, color, and decorate their paper plate masks.
Encourage creative interpretation — traits can be shown symbolically.
Teacher circulates to provide support and guidance.
5. Closing: Group Photo
Children stand together wearing their masks.
Everyone makes the sound of their chosen animal at the same time (e.g., roar, chirp, bark, hiss).
Teacher or helper takes a photo/ video to capture the moment.
Extra tips for volunteers:
At the end of the class, we need to have a sign up form for parents of new kids so we can send them the video or photo :D
Also so we can encourage new kids to the class
